Jamaal Wilkes

Jamaal Wilkes (born Jackson Keith Wilkes, May 2, 1953; later known as Jamaal Abdul-Lateef) is an American former basketball player who played small forward in the National Basketball Association. Born in Berkeley, California, he was one of five children of L. Leander Wilkes.

Wilkes played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins under coach John Wooden, earning consensus first-team All-American honors twice and winning two NCAA championships. Golden State selected him in the first round of the 1974 NBA draft. In his first season with the Warriors, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year and helped the team win a league title. He went on to win three more NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers during their Showtime era, and was named an NBA All-Star three times. Nicknamed "Silk," he briefly played with the Los Angeles Clippers before retiring. His jersey No. 52 was retired by both the Bruins and the Lakers.

Outside of basketball, Wilkes played the title role of Cornbread in the 1975 coming-of-age feature film Cornbread, Earl and Me.

Wilkes was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
