Jan Stenerud

Jan Stenerud (born November 26, 1942) is a Norwegian-American former professional football placekicker who played 19 seasons in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Kansas City Chiefs. The first Norwegian to play in the NFL, he played college football for the Montana State Bobcats, where he earned All-American honors. Selected by the Chiefs in the 1966 draft, Stenerud began his career in the AFL and joined the NFL following the AFL–NFL merger. In the season prior to the merger, he helped the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl IV.

Stenerud spent 13 seasons in Kansas City, followed by four seasons with the Green Bay Packers and two with the Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 1985. Over his career he was a six-time all-star, with four NFL Pro Bowls and two AFL All-Star games, and earned four first-team All-Pro selections in the NFL and two first-team All-AFL selections.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991 as the first exclusive placekicker to receive the honor, a distinction he held alone until the induction of Morten Andersen in 2017.
