Jean Pronovost

Jean Joseph Denis Pronovost, born December 18, 1945, is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Flames, and Washington Capitals.

Pronovost played his junior hockey with the Niagara Falls Flyers, where in his rookie year he won the team scoring title and was named Rookie of the Year, earning the Gamma Sigma Award for the 1964-65 season. He was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins, along with John Arbour, from the Boston Bruins on May 21, 1968, in exchange for Pittsburgh's 1969 first-round draft pick (fourth overall, Frank Spring) and cash.

A consistent scorer, Pronovost reached 40 goals four times. He was the first member of the Pittsburgh Penguins to score 100 points in a season and the first to score 50 goals in a season. He was traded to Atlanta by Pittsburgh for Gregg Sheppard on September 6, 1978, and was later sold to Washington by Calgary on July 1, 1980.

After his playing career, Pronovost coached the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL from 1994 to 1996, the Quebec Rafales of the IHL in 1996-97, and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL in 2000-01. He is a member of the Trib Total Media Penguins honor roll.
