Dossier

Gerald Donald Kindall (1935–2017) was a right-handed second baseman who played nine seasons in Major League Baseball, appearing in 742 games for the Chicago Cubs (1956–58, 1960–61), Cleveland Indians (1962–64), and Minnesota Twins (1964–65). A St. Paul native, Kindall attended the University of Minnesota, where his 1956 Golden Gophers won the NCAA Division I baseball championship. He is also the first batter to hit for the cycle in College World Series history. After retiring as a player, he coached the University of Arizona Wildcats for 24 seasons (1973–1996), winning three College World Series titles — making him the first person to win CWS championships as both a player and a head coach.
