Jerry Korab

Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Korab, born September 15, 1948, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League from 1971 to 1985. Nicknamed "King Kong," Korab built a reputation as a physical defenceman in the 1970s-era NHL, using his size to clear the front of his net while also possessing a hard shot and some offensive ability.

He made his NHL debut with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1970–71, tasked with keeping the front of the net clear. He continued in that role over the following two seasons, scoring 12 goals in 1972–73 and helping Chicago reach the Stanley Cup Final in 1971 and 1973.

Korab spent his best years on the blueline of the Buffalo Sabres from 1973 to 1980, developing into an effective defenceman on one of the league's best young teams. He reached double digits in goals four times and was a physical presence as the Sabres advanced to their first Stanley Cup Final in 1975. He was selected to the NHL All-Star Games in 1975 and 1976. During this period, he was also recognized as the NHL's "best dressed player" for three years.
