Dossier

Julio Rubén "Jerry" Morales Torres (born February 18, 1949, in Puerto Rico) was a Major League Baseball outfielder who played from 1969 to 1983. Originally signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in 1966, he was taken by the San Diego Padres in the 1968 expansion draft. Traded to the Chicago Cubs in November 1973 for Glenn Beckert, Morales spent seven seasons with Chicago across two stints (1973–1977, 1981–1983), playing all three outfield positions with above-average speed and a reliable glove. He was known for an unusual two-handed basket catch made directly in front of his body, below the belt.
