Jerry Zimmerman

Dossier
Gerald Robert Zimmerman (September 21, 1934 – September 9, 1998) was a right-handed catcher from Omaha, Nebraska who appeared in nearly 500 games over eight Major League Baseball seasons. Signed by the Boston Red Sox out of Milwaukie High School in Oregon at age 17 for an $80,000 bonus in 1952, he spent several years in the minor leagues before reaching the majors. In 1958, catching for the Triple-A Minneapolis Millers under manager Gene Mauch, he was part of a club that won both the American Association and Junior World Series championships. Zimmerman went on to play for the Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins from 1961 to 1968, and later worked as a coach.
