Dossier

Samuel James "Sugar Jim" Henry (October 23, 1920 – January 21, 2004) was a Canadian goaltender who played in the National Hockey League from 1941 to 1955 with the New York Rangers, Chicago Black Hawks, and Boston Bruins. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he earned his nickname as a child when neighbors dipped his pacifier in sugar. Before turning professional, he led the Regina Rangers to the 1941 Allen Cup, drawing the attention of Rangers executive Frank Boucher. In his first NHL season, Henry posted 29 wins, leading all goaltenders and setting a new franchise record, though New York fell to Toronto in the 1942 playoffs.
