Jim Herberts

James William "Sailor" Herbert was a Canadian professional ice hockey player born in Cayuga, Ontario on October 31, 1897. A centre forward, he spent six seasons in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Detroit Cougars, and was an original member of the Boston Bruins franchise. His nickname derived from his work as a deckhand. After retiring from play, Herbert refereed in the Maritime League and later in the British Ice Hockey Association during the 1930s. He died in Buffalo, New York on December 5, 1968.
