Jim Kaat

James Lee Kaat, nicknamed "Kitty," is an American former professional baseball player and television sports commentator, born November 7, 1938. A left-handed pitcher, he played Major League Baseball for a then-record 25 years, appearing with the Washington Senators / Minnesota Twins from 1959 to 1973, the Chicago White Sox from 1973 to 1975, the Philadelphia Phillies from 1976 to 1979, the New York Yankees from 1979 to 1980, and the St. Louis Cardinals from 1980 to 1983.

Kaat was a three-time All-Star and won the Gold Glove Award for 16 straight seasons. He led the American League in shutouts with five in 1962, and in 1966 led the league in wins with 25 and complete games with 19. He recorded 283 career wins, including three 20-win seasons. With the Senators/Twins he won 190 games—all but one of them coming with the Minnesota club—the second-most in franchise history and the most since the team's move to Minnesota. His 12 Gold Glove Awards are the most of any Twin.

After a brief stint as pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds, Kaat turned to broadcasting, calling games for the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins over the next 22 years. Following a brief retirement in 2006, he returned to call Pool D for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
