Jim Konstanty

Casimir James Konstanty (March 2, 1917 – June 11, 1976) was a right-handed relief pitcher who spent the bulk of his Major League Baseball career with the Philadelphia Phillies (1948–1954), also appearing with the Cincinnati Reds (1944), Boston Braves (1946), New York Yankees (1954–1956), and St. Louis Cardinals (1956). A native of Strykersville, New York, he attended Syracuse University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree and played on the basketball team, before working as a physical education teacher. He won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1950.
