Jim Lemon

James Robert Lemon (March 23, 1928 – May 14, 2006) was born in Covington, Virginia. The 6-foot-4 right-handed outfielder signed with the Cleveland Indians in 1948 under the name "Bob," adopting "Jim Lemon" to avoid confusion with Indians pitcher Bob Lemon. He never secured a regular role in Cleveland, spending several seasons in the minor leagues before finally winning a starting berth at age 28 with the 1956 Washington Senators. A free-swinger who led the American League in strikeouts three times, Lemon formed one of the franchise's most productive power-hitting combinations alongside Roy Sievers, Harmon Killebrew, and Bob Allison. He later served as a manager and coach.
