Jim Northrup

James Thomas Northrup (November 24, 1939 – June 8, 2011), nicknamed "the Silver Fox" for his prematurely graying hair, was a left-handed outfielder who spent the bulk of his 12-year major league career with the Detroit Tigers (1964–74), also appearing with the Montreal Expos and Baltimore Orioles in 1974–75. A versatile defender capable at all three outfield spots, he was known for a short, quick stroke, good strike-zone judgment, and a capable arm. Northrup is best remembered for his role in Detroit's 1968 World Series championship, where he led the club in hits and RBIs, hit five grand slams during the season, and delivered the game-winning triple off Bob Gibson in Game 7.
