After serving in a reserve role his freshman year behind Josh Heupel and redshirting his sophomore season, White stepped into the starting lineup mid-2001 when Nate Hybl was injured in a win over Texas. He responded with 16 completions for 108 yards and a team-high 38 rushing yards, then started the following week against Kansas, throwing four touchdown passes. He went on to earn unanimous All-American honors and won the Heisman Trophy in 2003.
