Dossier

James Joseph Ring (February 15, 1895 – July 6, 1965) was a right-handed starting pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1917 to 1928 for the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants, and St. Louis Cardinals. Ring earned his place in postseason history by shutting out the Chicago White Sox 2–0 on three hits in Game Four of the 1919 World Series, defeating Ed Cicotte. He won 17 games in 1920 before being traded to Philadelphia, where he posted a career-high 18 wins in 1923. He was later included in the trade that sent Frankie Frisch to St. Louis in exchange for Rogers Hornsby.
