Joe Black

Joseph Jefferson Jackson, nicknamed "Shoeless Joe," was an American professional baseball outfielder in the early twentieth century. His .356 career batting average ranks among the highest in major-league history. Jackson became associated with the 1919 Black Sox Scandal, in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox conspired to fix the World Series. During that Series, Jackson led both teams in several statistical categories and set a record with 12 base hits, including the only home run of the series. Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis permanently banned Jackson after the 1920 season. In 2025, Commissioner Rob Manfred removed him from the permanently ineligible list, restoring his Hall of Fame eligibility.
