Joe Dugan

Joseph Anthony Dugan (May 12, 1897 – July 7, 1982) was an American professional baseball player who played shortstop and third base in Major League Baseball from 1917 through 1931. Born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, he attended the College of the Holy Cross before making his major league debut at age 20 with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics on July 5, 1917. After a slow start at the plate, Dugan developed into a steady .280–.300 hitter and was moved permanently to third base in 1921. He spent his most prominent years with the New York Yankees, appearing in five World Series, and was regarded as one of the best defensive third basemen of his era.
