Joe Gedeon

Elmer Joseph Gedeon (December 5, 1893 – May 19, 1941) was an American second baseman who played for the Washington Senators, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Browns. Born in Sacramento, California, he began his professional career in the Pacific Coast League in 1912. An above-average defensive player, he led American League second basemen in assists and fielding percentage in 1918 and fielding percentage again in 1919. His 48 sacrifice hits in 1920 remain a Browns/Orioles single-season record. On November 3, 1921, Gedeon was banned for life from organized baseball following his association with the Black Sox conspiracy.
