Joe Vosmik

Joseph Franklin Vosmik (April 4, 1910 – January 27, 1962) was an American outfielder who played in the major leagues from 1930 to 1944. He spent the bulk of his career with the Cleveland Indians (1930–1936), followed by single-season stints and shorter runs with the St. Louis Browns (1937), Boston Red Sox (1938–1939), Brooklyn Dodgers (1940–1941) and Washington Senators (1944).

Vosmik's finest season came in 1935, when he was voted to the American League All-Star team as a right fielder and finished third in voting for the AL Most Valuable Player Award. That year he led the league in hits (216), doubles (47) and triples (20), batting .348 with a .408 on-base percentage and a .537 slugging percentage across 152 games, adding 93 runs, 10 home runs and 110 RBIs. On December 3, 1937, the Browns traded him to the Red Sox for Bobo Newsom, Red Kress and Buster Mills. In 1938 he again led the AL in hits with 201, batting .324 over 146 games with 121 runs and 37 doubles, and finished 21st in MVP voting.

As a member of the 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers, Vosmik appeared in only 25 games with 56 at-bats and did not play in the 1941 World Series.
