Joe Watson

Joseph John "Joe" Watson, born July 6, 1943, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman whose National Hockey League career included stints with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, and Colorado Rockies. With the Flyers, Watson was a member of the franchise's back-to-back Stanley Cup championship teams, and for several seasons he played alongside his younger brother, Jimmy Watson, on the Philadelphia blue line. In the 1976 game against the Soviet Red Army team, Watson—a defenceman and not a noted scorer—scored a shorthanded goal against goaltender Vladislav Tretiak, prompting Flyers coach Fred Shero to joke that Watson had "set Russian hockey back 25 years."
