John Brockington

John Stanley Brockington (September 7, 1948 – March 31, 2023) was an American professional football player who played running back in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Brockington attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where he starred from 1963 to 1965 as a running back on the Orange Wave under coach Moe Finkelstein, earning the nickname "the Rock." As a senior, the 210-pound Brockington rushed for 1,205 yards on 165 attempts, a 7.3 yards-per-carry average, and led New York City's Public Schools Athletic League II in rushing. He received the most votes for the New York Daily News' 1965 Brooklyn-Queens All-Star Team and was named All-Metropolitan and a scholastic All-American.

Brockington played college football at Ohio State University, from which he entered the NFL as a first-round draft choice. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1971. Over the course of his professional career he played for the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the early 1970s, after being approached by Finkelstein about obtaining weight machines for the Jefferson players, Brockington gifted the school a modern weight training facility. He died on March 31, 2023.
