John Bucyk

John Paul "Chief" Bucyk (born May 12, 1935) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger who played most of his career with the Boston Bruins. He has been associated with the Bruins' organization in one capacity or another since the late 1950s. The largest left winger of his day, Bucyk was never regarded as the best at his position, playing in an era of contemporaries such as Bobby Hull and Frank Mahovlich, but he assembled a long and stellar career. He recorded sixteen seasons of twenty goals or more and retired as the fourth-leading point scorer of all time, having played the third-most games in league history. Despite a reputation for devastating hip checks, he was a notably clean player, winning the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship in 1971 and 1974. As the senior alternate captain of the Bruins, he helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972. Following his retirement, Bucyk remained with the Bruins in a variety of roles, including commentator, director, and team ambassador. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in 2017.
