John Gordy

John Thomas Gordy, Jr. (July 17, 1935 – January 30, 2009) was an offensive guard for the Detroit Lions, playing eleven seasons in the NFL from 1957 to 1967. A Nashville, Tennessee native, Gordy attended the University of Tennessee, where he played right tackle for the Volunteers under coach Bowden Wyatt. He served as team captain in his senior season of 1956 and was named All-Southeastern Conference that year. Before college, he played at Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, helping the team win the 1952 Clinic Bowl. He is a member of the Metro Nashville Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame.
