John Hadl

John Willard Hadl, an American professional football player, was a quarterback for sixteen years in the American Football League and the National Football League. Born February 15, 1940, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Jess and Judy Hadl, he was the son of a mechanic. He attended Lawrence High School, where he was an all-state halfback. Hadl died November 30, 2022.

He enrolled at the University of Kansas and played college football for his hometown Jayhawks. After playing halfback on both offense and defense as a sophomore, he moved to quarterback for his final two years. A two-time All-American, he was later elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Hadl won an American Football League championship with the San Diego Chargers in 1963 and played in three AFL title games with the club before the league's merger with the NFL. He was named an AFL All-Star four times and was selected to two Pro Bowls. He finished his career with the Los Angeles Rams, the Green Bay Packers, and the Houston Oilers, and also played as a punter for five seasons.

Hadl was inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame.
