John Hiller

John Frederick Hiller (born April 8, 1943) was a Canadian relief pitcher who spent his entire 15-season Major League Baseball career with the Detroit Tigers (1965–1980). A Toronto native, he was part of the 1968 World Series championship club and that year set a record by opening a game with six consecutive strikeouts. After suffering a heart attack in January 1971 and missing a full season, he returned to help Detroit win the 1972 AL East title. In 1973, he posted a 1.44 ERA and broke the single-season saves record with 38, earning The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year and Fireman of the Year honors. He finished his career with an 87–76 record and 2.83 ERA.
