John Hummel

John Hummel (April 4, 1883 – May 18, 1959), known as "Silent John", was born John Edwin and hailed from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. At 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, he batted right-handed and threw right. He played in the major leagues from 1905 through 1918, a 13-season run, spending most of his career with the Brooklyn Robins of the National League. His broader professional career stretched from 1904 to 1926, bracketing his major-league years on both ends. His card record includes appearances on E254 Colgan's Chips, T204 Ramly, and T206 White Border. He died May 18, 1959 in Springfield, Massachusetts and is interred at St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
