John Lavan

John Leonard "Doc" Lavan (1890–1952) was a professional baseball shortstop who played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, and St. Louis Cardinals. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he attended Hope College and the University of Michigan before reaching the majors. In 1,163 career games, Lavan posted a .245 batting average with 954 hits and 377 RBIs, with his best offensive season coming in 1920 (.289, 63 RBIs). A capable fielder with good range, he nonetheless led American League shortstops in errors four times.
