John Mahnken

John Mahnken (1922–2000) was a 6'8" center from West New York, New Jersey who played college basketball at Georgetown University, earning All-American honors in 1943. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined the Rochester Royals in the National Basketball League and won the 1946 league title alongside future Knicks coach Red Holzman and actor Chuck Connors. Signed by Red Auerbach to the Washington Capitols, Mahnken was traded several times before settling with the Boston Celtics from 1951 to 1953. He retired with career averages of 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
