John McKenzie

John Albert McKenzie (December 12, 1937 – June 9, 2018) was a Canadian professional hockey player and coach. Before turning professional, he played three years of junior hockey with the St. Catharines Teepees of the OHA, leading the league in goals and points in 1958. A former teammate, Gerry Melnyk, nicknamed him "Pieface" for his resemblance to a cartoon figure featured on the wrapper of a popular Canadian candy bar; the name was later shortened to "Pie."

McKenzie made his NHL debut in 1958–59 with the Chicago Black Hawks. The following season he moved to the Detroit Red Wings, where he spent two years before being demoted to the minor leagues. He played most of three seasons in the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears and the Buffalo Bisons.

Over a 12-season NHL career, he was most closely associated with the Boston Bruins, with whom he won the Stanley Cup twice. In 1972 he joined the World Hockey Association, where he played in all seven seasons of the league's existence, the final three with the New England Whalers. Across 477 WHA games, he recorded 413 total points.
