John Mendenhall

John Rufus Mendenhall was an American professional football defensive tackle who played in the National Football League from 1972 to 1980. Born December 3, 1948, he played college football at Grambling State University and was selected in the third round of the 1972 NFL draft.
Mendenhall appeared in 116 games over nine seasons with the New York Giants and Detroit Lions. His best year as a pro came in 1977, when he recorded 12 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
Mendenhall died on February 26, 2021, in Cullen, Louisiana, at the age of 72.
