John Schmitt

Dossier
John Schmitt (born November 12, 1942) played center in the NFL for ten seasons, spending the bulk of his career with the New York Jets before finishing with the Green Bay Packers in 1974. A Hofstra product, Schmitt started at center for the Jets in Super Bowl III. He was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in the Football Category with the Class of 1992. His Super Bowl ring, lost while surfing in the 1980s, was recovered decades later when a lifeguard's great-niece found it among the deceased man's belongings and returned it to Schmitt.
