Dossier

John B. Tresvant, born November 6, 1939, in Washington, D.C., is an American former basketball player who competed in the National Basketball Association from 1964 to 1973. He played high school football and baseball in Washington but did not play basketball, having been cut from the team for being too short. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, and repaired aircraft radar units. He grew several inches during his service and took up Amateur Athletic Union basketball, where Seattle University spotted him and offered a scholarship following the conclusion of his military service.

A 6-foot-7 forward and center, Tresvant played three seasons at Seattle. He averaged 12.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game across his three-year college career, and as a senior averaged 17.9 points and 14 rebounds per game. In 1963, he officially recorded 40 rebounds in a single game against the University of Montana.

Over his nine-year NBA career, Tresvant played for six teams: the St. Louis Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Cincinnati Royals, Seattle SuperSonics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Baltimore Bullets. His teams reached the NBA Finals in 1970 and 1971.
