John Williamson

John Lee Williamson, an American basketball player, was born November 10, 1951 and died November 30, 1996. A 6'2" guard nicknamed "Super John" for his highly efficient jump shooting, he helped the New York Nets win two American Basketball Association (ABA) championships during the 1970s.

Williamson played high school basketball at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut, where he was part of the Connecticut state champion teams of 1966–67 and 1967–68. In the 1968 title game, Cross defeated Bridgeport Central 123–82 for its third consecutive title, with teammates Clint Davis scoring 40 points and Alex Scott adding 24; Williamson contributed 17 points, his average that year. In 1968–69, Cross finished runner-up to crosstown rival Hillhouse, losing the final 76–71. During his senior season of 1969–70, Williamson led the nation in scoring at 38.7 points per game, though his team was upset in a semifinal, again facing Bridgeport Central, in a 105–103 finish.

He went on to play college basketball for the New Mexico State Aggies before his professional career with the New York Nets.
