Johnny Bucyk

John Paul "Chief" Bucyk, born May 12, 1935, was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger whose career was spent largely with the Boston Bruins, an organization he has been associated with since the late 1950s. The largest left winger of his day, Bucyk was never regarded as the best at his position, playing as a contemporary of Bobby Hull and Frank Mahovlich, but he assembled a long and productive career. He retired as the fourth-leading point scorer in NHL history and having played the third-most games of any player to that point, recording sixteen seasons of twenty goals or more.

Despite a reputation for devastating hip checks, Bucyk was a notably clean player, winning the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship in 1971 and 1974. He served as the senior alternate captain of the Bruins when the team won the Stanley Cup in 1970 and again in 1972.

Following his retirement, Bucyk remained with the Bruins in a variety of roles, including commentator and director, and currently serves as an ambassador for the team. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and, in 2017, was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players."
