Johnny Roland

Dossier
Johnny Roland played running back in the NFL from 1966 through 1973, spending seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before finishing his career with the New York Giants. A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Roland played college football at Missouri, where he earned consensus All-American honors as a defensive back in 1965. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1998. Before his college career, Roland led Roy Miller High School to the 1960 Texas 4A State Championship — the first racially integrated high school team to win a state football title in Texas. He later worked as an NFL assistant coach and on the staff at the University of Notre Dame.
