Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. on April 16, 1947, is an American former basketball player who competed professionally for 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association. Known as Lew Alcindor during his years at Power Memorial, a private Catholic high school in New York City, he led the school's team to 71 consecutive wins. He went on to play college basketball as a center for the UCLA Bruins, winning three consecutive national championships.

In the NBA, Abdul-Jabbar played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. He won a record six NBA Most Valuable Player awards and was a member of six NBA championship teams as a player, twice voted NBA Finals MVP. He was selected as a 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA Team member, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection. He was named to three NBA anniversary teams, marking the 35th, 50th, and 75th anniversaries. After his playing career, he won two further NBA championships as an assistant coach.

Abdul-Jabbar broke the NBA's career scoring record in 1984 and held it until LeBron James surpassed him in 2023. He is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
