Ken Stabler

Kenneth Michael Stabler (December 25, 1945 – July 8, 2015) was an American professional football quarterback who played 17 seasons in the National Football League, primarily with the Oakland Raiders. A standout all-around athlete at Foley High School in Foley, Alabama, he led the team to a 29–1 record over his high school career, the lone loss coming against Vigor High School. He averaged 29 points a game in basketball and pitched left-handed well enough to draw minor-league contract offers from the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. It was at Foley that a coach gave him the nickname "Snake."

Stabler played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 1968 NFL/AFL draft. Over ten seasons in Oakland he earned four Pro Bowl selections and was named the league's Most Valuable Player in 1974. He helped the Raiders win their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XI. Stabler was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
