Kevin Loughery

Kevin Michael "Murph" Loughery (born March 28, 1940) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a police detective, and attended Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx, graduating in 1957. In his senior year he was named an All-City player and earned most valuable player honors in the Bronx Catholic high school tournament, which his team won.

Loughery began his college career at Boston College, playing one season for the Eagles in 1958–59 and averaging 16.8 points in 19 games. Homesick, he transferred to St. John's University, where he played two seasons from 1960 to 1962 under coach Joe Lapchick, who was later inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1966.

As a coach, Loughery led five different teams to the NBA playoffs. He coached both Julius Erving and Michael Jordan during his career, and gave Phil Jackson his first NBA coaching job.
