Kid Gleason

William Jethro "Kid" Gleason (1866–1933) was born in Camden, New Jersey, and played and managed in Major League Baseball from the late 1880s through the early 1930s. Standing just 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds, he earned his nickname from both his slight build and his energetic, youthful nature. Gleason debuted as a pitcher with the Philadelphia Quakers on April 20, 1888, after impressing manager Harry Wright. He managed the Chicago White Sox from 1919 through 1923, his first season coinciding with the team's World Series appearance and the Black Sox Scandal, in which Gleason was not implicated. He later served on the Philadelphia Athletics coaching staff through 1931.
