L.G. Dupre

Dossier
Louis George Dupre (September 10, 1932 – August 9, 2001) was a professional American football running back in the National Football League. He played college football at Baylor University before turning professional with the Baltimore Colts, and he later played for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dupre grew up in Texas City, Texas, where he attended Texas City High School. On April 16, 1947, while walking to school along the sea wall, he was thrown from his feet and briefly knocked unconscious by a massive explosion, the first in a chain reaction that leveled much of the town in what became known as the Texas City disaster. He recalled staying huddled in fear, unsure whether he had felt an earthquake or an atomic bomb, before running to the school and meeting his brother by chance amid the wreckage. Two of his cousins were among the approximately 650 people killed.
