Dossier

William Lawrence Gardner (1886–1976) was an American third baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1908 through 1924, spending time with the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Athletics, and Cleveland Indians. A native of Enosburg, Vermont, he attended the University of Vermont — the first player from that school to reach the American League. Gardner spent his prime years in the dead-ball era and won four World Series championships. He was a standout in the 1912 World Series, leading Boston with 5 RBIs and hitting the team's only home run.
