Larry Hand

Dossier
Lawrence Thomas Hand, born July 10, 1940, in Paterson, New Jersey, was a defensive end who spent 13 seasons with the Detroit Lions of the NFL from 1965 to 1977. He played college football at Appalachian State, where he earned first-team NAIA All-American honors in 1964 and had his jersey number (71) retired — one of only five Appalachian State players to receive that distinction. With Detroit, Hand was named the team's most valuable player in 1972. He remains one of the longer-tenured players in Lions franchise history.
