Larry Kenon

Larry Joe Kenon, known during his playing career as Larry Kenon and later as Muhsin Kenon, was an American professional basketball player born December 13, 1952. A 6'9" forward, he had a productive career in both the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association, playing for the New York Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He carried the nicknames "KAT," "Mr. K"—a counterpart to Nets teammate Julius Erving's "Dr. J"—and "Special K."

Kenon transferred from Amarillo College to Memphis State University, where he played for the Tigers. In his junior year of 1972–73, he averaged 20.1 points and 16.7 rebounds per game and led Memphis State to the NCAA championship game, where the Tigers were defeated by the Bill Walton-led UCLA Bruins. That season he was named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, after which he left Memphis State to turn professional.

In 1973, the Detroit Pistons selected Kenon in the third round of the NBA draft, 15th pick overall. He was also drafted by the Memphis Tams of the ABA, but the New York Nets secured his draft rights, and he began his professional career with the Nets.
