Dossier

Lawrence James Miller (April 4, 1946 – May 11, 2025) was an American professional basketball player whose career spanned the high school, college, and professional ranks. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he attended Catasauqua High School, where he earned All-American honors in basketball and All-League recognition in football before choosing to focus solely on basketball. Standing 6 ft 4 in and weighing 215 pounds, Miller was a deft left-handed shooter and an explosive jumper, and he sharpened his game during the summers against professional players from the Eastern League's Allentown Jets. His high school teams won the Lehigh Valley League Championship.

Miller went on to play college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels, where he was named ACC Player of the Year in both 1966 and 1967. From 1968 to 1975, he played professionally in the American Basketball Association, appearing for the Los Angeles Stars, the Carolina Cougars, the San Diego Conquistadors, the Virginia Squires, and the Utah Stars.

In 2002, Miller was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary men's basketball team as one of the 50 greatest players in Atlantic Coast Conference history. He died on May 11, 2025.
