Len Hauss

Leonard Moore Hauss (July 11, 1942 – December 15, 2021) was an American professional football player who played center in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins from 1964 to 1977.

Born in Jesup, Georgia, to Leonard and Ida Hauss, he attended Jesup High School (now Wayne County High School), where he played fullback, lineman, and linebacker. After overcoming a knee injury, he played three years on the varsity from 1956 to 1959. As a senior, he rushed for 1,500 yards and scored 15 touchdowns, leading the team to the Georgia Class AA Championship, and earned All-Region, All-State, All-Southern, and prep All-America honors.

Hauss attended the University of Georgia, where he played college football for the Bulldogs. Although he had been a successful fullback in high school, he lacked the speed to star at that position in college and moved to center and linebacker.

The Redskins selected Hauss in the ninth round of the 1964 NFL draft. Over his fourteen seasons with the franchise, he was selected to five Pro Bowls. He was later named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins.
