Dossier

Leonard Robert Rosenbluth, an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA), was born January 22, 1933, in the Bronx and died June 18, 2022. Though he played in the NBA, he is remembered first and foremost for his college career. He was the son of Rose (Kaufman) and Jack Rosenbluth, and his family was Jewish. He attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx, where he played only eight games, and spent the 1952–53 school year at Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia.

Rosenbluth played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In his first year of varsity play in 1955, he was the team's leading scorer, averaging 25.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, and was named third-team All-American. He earned second-team All-American honors from the AP, UPI, and INS, and third-team honors from the NEA and Collier's, in 1956. In 1957 he was named Helms Foundation Player of the Year, a consensus first-team All-American, and ACC Player of the Year. He was a three-time first-team All-ACC selection from 1955 through 1957.
