A native of Richmond, Missouri, and a 1969 Richmond High School graduate, Elliott participated in football and track before reaching the professional level. He is best remembered as a member of the San Francisco 49ers team that won Super Bowl XVI. At Richmond High, he drew attention for a standout final prep performance in which he scored all 19 of his team's points and rushed for 201 yards against a Slater squad that had lost just one game that season.
