Leo Reise

Leopold Adolph Emile Reise, Sr. (June 1, 1892 – July 8, 1975) was a Canadian hockey player who played eight seasons in the National Hockey League. Born in Pembroke, Ontario, Reise lost the sight in one of his eyes as a child, the result not of an injury but of an optical nerve that simply died; he continued to play hockey despite the loss.

Before turning professional in 1920, Reise spent several years with the amateur Hamilton Tigers. He joined the professional Hamilton Tigers when the team was formed and remained with the club for four seasons. He then played three seasons with the Saskatoon Crescents of the Western Canada Hockey League before returning to the NHL in 1926 with the New York Americans. After four seasons with the Americans, he finished his NHL tenure with the New York Rangers. Reise spent two additional seasons in the minor International Hockey League before retiring in 1932.

His son, Leo Reise, Jr., also reached the NHL and won the Stanley Cup twice with the Detroit Red Wings, in 1950 and 1952.
