Leon Ames

Leon Kessling "Red" Ames (August 2, 1882 – October 8, 1936) was a right-handed pitcher from Warren, Ohio who spent the bulk of his career with the New York Giants under manager John McGraw. He debuted on September 14, 1903, throwing an abbreviated five-inning no-hitter against the Cardinals that was called due to darkness. His best season came in 1905, when he posted 22 wins and a 2.74 ERA as the Giants claimed their first twentieth-century world championship. He served as Opening Day starter three consecutive years and appeared in the 1905, 1911, and 1912 World Series. His career ERA of 2.63 ties Cy Young.
