Lindy McDaniel

Lyndall Dale "Lindy" McDaniel (December 13, 1935 – November 14, 2020) was an American professional baseball pitcher whose career in Major League Baseball spanned 21 years, from 1955 to 1975. Over that period he appeared in or witnessed approximately 3,500 major league games, not counting spring training, had more than 300 teammates, and played under eight different managers.

Born on December 13, 1935, in Hollis, Oklahoma, McDaniel was named after the aviator Charles Lindbergh. He had two brothers and one sister. His brother Von McDaniel also pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, and another brother, Kerry Don "Butch" McDaniel, pitched in minor league baseball. Their father, Newell McDaniel, was an accomplished tennis player, and College Football Hall of Fame coach Darrell Royal was McDaniel's cousin.

McDaniel attended the University of Oklahoma and Abilene Christian College. He went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants of the National League, and the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals of the American League. He stood 6 feet 3 inches and was listed at 195 pounds.

Away from baseball, McDaniel was a minister for the Church of Christ.
